110 civilians killed from 2015 to 2017 in ‘stone-pelting incidents’: Govt

As many as 110 civilians and two policemen were killed during “stone-pelting incidents” in 2015, 2016 and 2017, the government said Tuesday.

11,566 forces’ personnel including 9,670 policemen were also injured in 4,736 “stone-pelting incidents” in the Kashmir valley during these years, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said in a written reply to a question by Congress MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta in the legislative council.

In 2016, nealy 90 people were killed and thousands injured, mostly due to the widespread use of pellet guns by forces, during months of protests and government clampdowns following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani in an encounter in Kulgam district.
