Saudi Arabia said 1,405,924 pilgrims had arrived in the country for Hajj till Thursday morning.
The General Directorate of Passports said in its daily statistics that 1,313,946 pilgrims arrived by air; 79,501 by land; and 12,477 by sea, an increase by 33% (350,531 ) pilgrims compared with the same period last year, according to reports.
Meanwhile Saudi security forces have paraded through Mecca ahead of the annual pilgrimage, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other top officials among those watching.
The military display took place late on Wednesday.
Between two and three million Muslims are expected to travel to Mecca for this year’s Hajj, which will take place at the beginning of next month.
