Srinagar: Two militants were killed by government forces today in south Kashmir Anantnag’s Dooru area in a gunfight that started last night.
“The encounter is over and two militants were killed and arms & ammunition recovered,” said the police, in a tweet.
A police official said the identity of the duo is being ascertained.
The SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Shistargam village late Friday night after inputs about the presence of militants, the official said.
The militants, who were hiding in a residential building, opened fire on the forces, triggering a gunfight.
Mobile Internet service was suspended in the area after the gunfight began.
Reports of clashes between youth and police also came in as the news of militant killings spread in the area.
