Three idols were found in a mosque in a village near Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh Monday morning but the police removed them from the premises.
SHO Praveen Kumar said the idols were found in a mosque in Baghra village, 10 km from Muzaffarnagar , following which people gathered outside and protested against it, Press Trust of India reported.
The idols, which were apparently kept in the premises last night, were removed by the police, the SHO said.
A case on the charge of inciting religious sentiments was registered against unidentified people.
The police said some miscreants had placed the idols in the mosque to create tension.
