Army call off CASO after stiff resistance by locals in Shopian

Srinagar: Army on Wednesday called off cordon and search operation (CASO) in Heff-Shirmal in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Wednesday morning.

Reports said that forces cordoned off the village after receiving inputs of the presence of militants in the area.

However, local youth started throwing stones at the forces which was retaliated by tear gas shelling. Consequently, the forces called off the CASO soon after, reports said.

As the forces withdraw from Heff-Shirmal area, the youth from adjacent village Achan stone pelted the convoy, triggering clashes in the entire area.
