Srinagar: Authorities on Saturday barred pro-freedom leader and chairman Jammu Kashmir National Front Nayeem Khan to meet Syed Ali Geelani at his Hyderpora residence to “offer his clarification” about the alleged sting operation carried out by India Today some days back.
“There was a heavy deployment of forces in the area and Nayeem Khan was not allowed to reach to Geelani sahib’s residence. He shall be shortly addressing a press conference at his Jawahar Nagar office,” a National Front member told Narrator.
Sources said that the Geelani-led Hurriyat was scheduled to hold a meeting to ask Khan to offer his clarification about the sting operation in which he had said that “Geelani takes crores of rupees from Hafiz Saeed”.
India Today had aired a video on Tuesday showing Nayeem Khan, who joined Geelani-led Hurriyat in 2015, Farooq Ahmad Dar aka Bitta Karate, chairman of a faction of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Gazi Javed Baba, a leader with Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, revealing that they “receive crores of rupees from across the border to fuel unrest in the Valley”.
According to the India Today report, Khan had travelled down to Delhi to meet the reporters, who posed as potential funders.
“He made startling disclosures on how Pakistan is funnelling hundreds of crores to the Hurriyat to plunge Jammu and Kashmir into its worst unrest in decades,” the report alleged.
