Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday said BJP and RSS leaders were “ignorant” about the “sensitivity and delicacy” of the Kashmir issue.
“The Kashmir issue is not some bubble which can be blown away with some constitutional trickery,” he said, while referring to statements of RSS and BJP leaders calling for constitutional amendments to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with India.
He said the Kashmir issue was a “humanitarian issue affecting the lives of millions of people.”
“For the last 70 years, India has failed to change the nature of the Kashmir issue despite using its military might and political deceit,” he said.
He also called for de-escalation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir lest the flare-up “culminate into a full-fledged war between India and Pakistan.”
“Pakistan should observe restraint and highlight the unprovoked firing from Indian side at international level,” he said.
Millions of people in India, Pakistan and war-torn Jammu and Kashmir are living in uncertainty and below poverty line, he said.
He asked both the countries to take steps towards establishing an environment of stability and tranquility in the subcontinent.
“The cross-border skirmishes between Indo-Pak forces on so-called control line has resulted inmassive death and destruction of human lives, livestock and crops .International community should take serious and effective diplomatic steps for final and lasting solution to Kashmir issue,” added Geelani.
