South Kashmir: Explosion outside Army camp kills civilian

Srinagar: A civilian was killed today in an explosion outside an Army camp in Awantipora, Pulwama in south Kashmir. 

The civilian was identified as Ashiq Hussain Chopan son of Ghulam Mohammad of Gutroo, Tral, a shepherd by profession.

Reports said that he suffered serious injuries in the explosion at upper reaches of Awantipora forests near Barsoo adjacent to Army’s Victor Force headquarter.

The shepherd was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital in the unconscious state where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, the report said.

The area where the blast took place is army’s firing range.

“Police have taken cognisance of the matter and is in the process of ascertaining the cause of the explosion. In this connection under relevant sections of law a case has been initiated for investigation,” a police statement said.
