Srinagar: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed by government forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Thursday morning.
Militants opened fire on forces when the latter launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Sukurdin Mohalla, Hajin, resulting in an encounter.
During the exchange of fire, a Lashkar militant was killed, a local news agency reported while quoting official sources.
They added that after receiving a specific information, the CASO was launched by Army’s 13 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police early this morning.
A body and an AK 47 was recovered from the encounter site, they said.
The search operation has been called off, the report said.
As the news of the killing of the militant spread, youth hit the streets and clashed with the government forces. Till last reports came, the clashes were going on.
