Hajin area of Bandipora district observed a protest shutdown Thursday against vandalism and thrashing of people  by Army in several localities.

Locals said Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles Wednesday vandalized shops and homes, beat up people and set haystacks on fire in Parrey Mohalla, Bon Mohalla, Khos Mohalla and other localities of Hajin after stones were hurled at a patrol party.

The troopers also damaged some motorcycles and cars, they alleged.

A youth sustained a bullet wound while four others were injured due to pellets in ensuing clashes with the forces.

Srinagar- based army spokesman, Col. Rajesh Kalia said that an “area domination” patrol of 3 Sector RR was passing through Hajin when it came under “heavy stone-pelting by a mob.”

“The Patrol Party Commander cautioned the crowd not to indulge in stone-pelting. However, the mob continued to target the patrol, injuring three soldiers. After giving a final warning, a few rounds were fired in air to disperse the mob and the Patrol Party moved to its destination,” he claimed.
