The Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference Friday took a jibe at police asking if braid choppers were “aliens that they cannot be caught.”
“Our women are not safe even in their homes now. Are these braid choppers aliens who come and attack our women in their homes and are never caught? This is actually a conspiracy to divert the attention of people from the freedom movement,” the Hurriyat leaders said while addressing protest rallies in Srinagar and Shopian on Friday.
The authorities owe an explanation to people as to why the people behind braid chopping incidents have not been caught yet, the leaders said.
“An atmosphere of fear is being created in Jammu and Kashmir to pave the way for the abrogation of the state’s special status,” they said, according to a statement issued by the Hurriyat faction.
The attack on state subject laws could produce a “do-or-die situation” for Kashmiris, the statement quoted the leaders as saying.
The leaders said that National Investigation Agency(NIA) was being used as a “war weapon” against the “pro-freedom leadership and people.”
