Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday hailed the contribution of Muslims in the Indian society, saying that “Indian Muslims are the best Muslim in the world” and added that it was only in India that “all 72 sects” of Islam reside, stating that “there was no Islamic country in the world where all Islamic sects live”, a media report said.
The Home Minister made the statement at an Eid Milan program in New Delhi.
Singh was referring to a saying of Islam’s Prophet (PBUH) that states the Muslim nation shall disintegrate into 72 sects out of which “all shall go to hellfire except for one”.
Singh attended the event in the Delhi along with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar. During his speech, Singh reportedly said, “I believe Indian Muslim is Muslim by choice; they would have gone during partition if they would have wanted to.” He further said, “Those who try to be leaders of Islam get ‘rozedaars’ killed, this is injustice.”
Just a few days ago, the Government of India decided to not extend the Ramazan ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew from the alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting chief minister and PDP leader to submit her resignation to the governor.
In the wake of the PDP-BJP coalition split, Governor NN Vohra has recommended to the Home Ministry that Governor’s Rule should be imposed in the state.
