JRL ‘postpones’ protest program on Article 35A

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL)  Friday postponed a protest programme it had announced earlier this week over the issue of Article 35A.

The decision was taken after the Supreme Court accepted  the plea of the Jammu and Kashmir government that the pleas challenging Article 35 A be heard after Diwali.

On Wednesday, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik after a meeting had announced a five-day protest calendar over the issue of Article 35A, including a strike on August 29 when the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear a petition challenging the constitutional provision that grants special privileges to people of the state.

While announcing the protest programme, the leaders in a joint statement had warned of an agitation against any meddling with state subject law
