Kathua rape-murder case: Asifa’s uterus was injured, medical report confirms brutal sexual assault

The team probing the case is likely to submit the chargesheet in the case this week. The status report is to be submitted today.

The Jammu & Kashmir police crime branch is said to have gathered clinching evidence against those arrested for the gruesome rape and murder of eight-year-old Asifa in Kathua district, The Print reported today quoting sources.

As the investigation nears its conclusion, police sources said that the prima facie evidence of sexual assault in the initial post-mortem report such as bloodstained discharge in the victim’s genitals has been corroborated by the histopathology report, which has also indicated damage to the uterus, the report said.

This, the sources said, is clinching evidence that the victim was brutally raped, the report added.

“The post-mortem report had also indicated that Asifa had died due to asphyxiation, corroborating the police’s claim that she was strangled with her shawl,” the report said.

The DNA sample of a hair strand found at the same site where the victim’s body was dumped had matched that of the juvenile who was allegedly involved in raping and strangulating the victim, proving his presence at the site, the report added.

Earlier, DNA test reports of hair strands found at the Devisthan, where Asifa was held captive before she was killed, had matched with hers. The forensic report had indicated that she was kept in the Devisthan, which was under the custody of Sanji Ram — the alleged mastermind.

The victim’s viscera report also indicated the presence of the salt Clonazepam, indicating she was drugged before she was raped and murdered.

The team probing the case is likely to submit the chargesheet in the case this week. The status report on the case is to be submitted Monday.

The high court had asked the police to ascertain the age of the juvenile suspect, which has to be done by the chief judicial magistrate in this case. According to sources, the accused is likely to be declared a juvenile even as a medical board set up earlier by the court had declared his age to be 19.

The court had also directed the police to take custody of Sanji Ram and his son Vishal, who was also allegedly instrumental in the rape and murder of Asifa.
