Kathua rape-murder: Fearing for their lives, victim’s family flees village

Fearing for their lives, the family of 8-year-old Muslim minor of Kathua, who was gang-raped and murdered inside a temple in January, quietly abandoned their home in Rasana village late on Tuesday after the Jammu Bar Association protested the J&K police’s filling of charge sheet against the accused, media reports said today.

Asifa’s father Muhammad Yusuf Pujwala has left for an unknown place along with his wife, two children and livestock, the reports said. Earlier, it was said that the family was planning to leave for Kashmir next month.

Meanwhile, Kashmir civil society members have also come out in protest against the gruesome crime. Students, youths and civil society members held protests in different areas of the Valley.
