Srinagar: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary on Thursday held a meeting of officials to review the progress of the ongoing dredging work in River Jehlum in the Valley. Commissioner Secretary and Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood control (I&FC) along with other senior officials of the department were in the meeting.
Sunil Patwari, CEO of Kolkata-based Reach Dredging Private Limited, the firm, under the contract, was also present in the meeting. He informed the officials about the progress of the work. Various issues related to the project were thoroughly discussed in the meeting.
The minister and the officials insisted the Reach Dredging Ltd to enhance its pace of work particularly in the downstream area so that the project would help to increase the carrying capacity of the river. The company was asked to install additional machinery and the manpower to enhance the capability and pace of work. The company was asked to complete the required dredging in north Kashmir by the end of the March this year. Sunil Patwari, CEO of Reach Dredging Ltd, assured the officials that the company will start working in double shift for the speedy process.
When contacted, Ms. Kinjal Desai, the project head of the Reach Dredging Lmited said that company has been given the deadline till March this year for the completion of the dredging work of Jehlum in Sopore and Baramulla.
“We are in the process to induct the additional machinery on the sites and to increase the work force to meet the deadline and we hope that even the harsh winter days will not halt the pace of our work,” she said.
