Holed up militants have managed to escape from the gunfight site in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam after locals engaged the government forces in deadly clashes, reports said.
Four civilians were killed by the forces at the encounter site. An army personnel was killed in the initial exchange of gunfire last evening.
The search operation at the gunfight site was called off after no militant bodies were retrieved from the debris of the blasted houses.
Earlier, forces said a search operation was launched to retrieve the militant bodies from the site of the firefight that broke out last night at Wani Mohalla.
Forces had earlier detonated the house in which the militants were holed up by using explosives, razing it to the ground. Two adjacent houses also caught fire.
Army had even used helicopter gunships to fight out the militants.
