The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, was closed for traffic due to snowfall since late Wednesday, reports said.
However, Srinagar-Jammu highway and historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region were through for traffic, reports quoting traffic police officials said.
The officials said there was fresh snowfall at Sonamarg, Zojila and Meenamarg on Ladakh highway during the night.
‘We have closed the highway for traffic due to snowfall and slippery road conditions,’ the official said, adding that there is almost no possibility to allow any traffic movement today. Snow on the road would get frozen due to which there is a danger of accidents and traffic will be allowed only when weather improves and there is a green signal from the authorities.
