LoC shelling kills 5 of a family in Poonch

Srinagar: Five members of a family were killed today as India and Pakistan traded heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said that shelling began around 7:40 am today in Balakote sector of Mendhar.

They said that a shell landed at the house of Muhammad Ramzan (45) at Devta, killing him, his wife Malka Bi (45) and three sons – Muhammad Rehman (19), Muhammad Rizwan (18) and Muhammad Razaq (8), a report said.

Two of his daughters were critically injured.

The injured sisters – identified as Nooren Akhtar (14) and Marin Akhtar (7) – were shifted to District Hospital Rajouri where from they were airlifted to GMC&H Jammu for specialised treatment, the report added.
