Mirwaiz set free to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid after 5 months

Srinagar: Pro-freedom leader and Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday delivered sermon in the historic Jamia Masjid since agitation broke in the Valley on 8 July.

Mirwaiz, who was first detained and later put under house arrest, was released by the authorities today to offer the noon congregational prayers at the historic mosque in old Srinagar, sources said.

Friday prayers were allowed in the Jamia last week after 19 weeks of continuous siege.
