Kulgam: The “naked dead body” of Asadullah Kumar, 40, a government employee in Fisheries Unit in Chanchar village, was found lying on ground on Friday night in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Locals said that they heard some gunshots in the area which was cordoned off by the forces on Friday evening.

“We heard shots and thought that an encounter started in the area. But later when people moved out, they saw the dead body of Asadullah lying on the ground with visible torture marks,” a local told Kashmir Narrator.

People were shouting anti-government slogans and were demanding that the District Commissioner must initiate a probe in the matter.

“Nobody will shout azadi slogans. We only need justice,” shouted a local, while others were chanting, “We want justice.”

Kumar, who hails from Qazigund area of south Kashmir, is survived by his parents, wife and two daughters.

A police official, according to a local daily, said on Friday that Kumar was shifted to District Hospital Kulgam where he was declared dead on arrival.

SP Kulgam, Shridhar Patil, didn’t speak to media. “I will talk to you later,” he said.
