Nearly 4,000 cancer cases in Kashmir a year since 2011

26,214 cancer cases were reported in Kashmir since 2011, an alarming average of nearly 4,000 cases per year, the government said Monday.

3075 cases were registered in the year 2011, 3288 in 2012, 3157 in 2013, 3940 in 2014, 4257 in 2015, 4976 in 2016 and 3521 in 2017, according to a minister’s reply to a legislator’s question in the state assembly.

27 doctors including Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident and Post Graduate students have been engaged for treating cancer patients at SKIMS beside 15 supporting staff and Medical Officer and Staff Nurse are also working in the cancer wing of the hospital, the minister said.

In the department of oncology, 16 staff members including doctors are looking for the department.
