No officer given clean chit: Army on human shield issue

Srinagar: Army on Monday termed as “speculative” the media reports saying that the army major accused of using a civilian as human shield in Kashmir has been given a clean chit, local newspaper Greater Kashmir reported.

“The Court of Inquiry (CoI) concerned with the incident wherein a civilian was tied to an Army jeep is still incomplete. Reports in some sections of the media of the Army Major being given a clean chit are speculative,” Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia was quoted by the report as saying.

A news report published earlier on Monday said that the CoI has given a clean chit to the army officer involved in taking a local Farooq Ahmad Dar as a human shield “to prevent stone-pelting” on April 9 poll day in Srinagar constituency.
