Police seize poppy straw in Udhampur, Chennani; arrest peddler

 

Srinagar: District Police Udhampur recovered 55.5 kilogrammes of poppy straw at two separate places and registered cases at Police Station Udhampur and Chenani on Wednesday, police said.

A Police party of Police Station Udhampur, while frequently checking the vehicles at Jakheni Naka on Srinagar-Jammu highway, intercepted one truck bearing registration No. PB11AE 9426 which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu, the police said. While checking of the said truck, the police party recovered 52 kg poppy straw from the vehicle, the police said.

“The accused narcotic smugglers namely Avtar Singh and his associate Baljinder Singh, both residents of Punjab were arrested on the spot and vehicle seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 210 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on,” the police said.

In another similar incident,  police Party of  Police Station Chenani, during surprise checking of the vehicles plying on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, intercepted one truck bearing registration No. PB12N/6667, which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu, the police added.

“During checking of the said truck, the police party recovered 3.5 kg poppy straw from the truck. The accused narcotic smuggler/driver of the truck namely Sukhvinder Singh S/o Darshan Singh R/o Dabhur Roopnagar, Anandpur Sahib, Punjab was arrested on the spot and vehicle seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 57/2017 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Chenani and further investigation of the case has been started,” the police said.
