Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested a Hurriyat leader in south Kashmir during a pro-freedom rally. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Mir Hafizullah, who was evading arrests for a long time, was arrested while he was leading a pro-freedom rally in Hakura village near Achabal in Anantnag district.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Narrator that a number of gun-totting men came to join the rally in the afternoon and were heading towards main road.
“We thought they are militants. They joined the march and then all of a sudden they opened fire to disperse the people. There was helter-skelter and Mir sahib was arrested,” a local who participated in the rally said, adding that tear-gas shells were also fired by the policemen.
