Protests after army ‘thrashes two teachers’ in Bandipora

Troopers barged into a government-run tuition centre in Shahgund village of Bandipora district’s Hajin area and “thrashed two teachers,” reports said Tuesday, leading to protests by locals against the Army amid a spontaneous shutdown.

Last month, Hajin had shut in protest against vandalism and thrashing of people  by Army in several localities.

Locals had accused the Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles of vandalizing shops and homes, beating up people and setting haystacks on fire in Parrey Mohalla, Bon Mohalla, Khos Mohalla and other localities of Hajin after stones were hurled at a patrol party.

The troopers were also accused of damaging some motorcycles and cars.
