‘Revoke Mehbooba Mufti’s Umrah visa’: Activists file petition

Srinagar: A petition has been filed on an online portal, asking Saudi Arabia to revoke the Umrah visa of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The petition was initiated by Adeel Shah on Change.org, a petition website operated by Change.org, Inc., an American certified B corporation.

This is an urgent appeal from the people of Jammu of Kashmir, residing in the GCC and elsewhere, to cancel Ms. Mehbooba Mufti’s Umrah Visa,” the petition reads. The petition is addressed to Adel Al Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia.

Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to perform Umrah on 23 February, according to reports. 

The petition further reads, “… she is directly responsible and accountable for the killing, torture, arrests and sexual violation of innocent people in the state using the state military and police apparatus. Since taking the chair in 2016, under her command, the state forces have killed more than 150 civilians, injuring over 20,000 using lethal weapons with more than 700 people, majority of whom are under the age of 25, shot on the face using pellet guns.”

More than hundred people have already signed the petition so far.
