Srinagar: Two more civilians were killed by government forces in Kachdoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district today taking the toll of civilian casualties to four.
The civilians were identified as Iqbal Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad of Khasipora, Shopian who succumbed to his injuries in SKIMS hospital in Soura. He was hit by a bullet in his abdomen.
Another civilian identified as Mehraj-ud-Din was killed when a bullet hit his head, a local told Narrator. Mehraj is a resident of Hajipora, Shopian, he added.
Earlier, two civilians Zubair Ahmad Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmad Thokar were killed by government forces in Kachdoora when a gunfight was raging in the village.
Three militants were killed in the Kachdoora gunfight, police said.
In another gunfight in Shopian’s Draggad village, seven local Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed who were identified by the police as Adil Ahmed Thoker of Humhuna, Nazim Dar of Nagbal, Ubaid Shafi Malla of Trenz, Yawar Itoo of Safanagri, Rayees Ahmed Thoker of Padarpora, Zubair Turay of Shopian and Ashfaq Malik of Pinjura.
In Dialgam village of Anantnag, police said a militant Rouf Bashir Khanday was killed in a gunfight while as his associate was caught alive.
Three army personnel were also killed during Kachdoora gunfight, police said.
More than 100 civilians were injured in the clashes that ensued at gunfight sites in which 34 were hit with pellets and are hospitalised in SMHS hospital in Srinagar. Two victims have sustained pellet injuries in both the eyes, a news report said.
