Shopian shuts against ‘mysterious disappearance’ of local youth

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian town on Thursday against the ‘mysterious disappearance’ of a local youth from the police custody on May 1.

Locals said that the whereabouts of youth Zubair Ahmad Turray, who was detained by police in an alleged stone pelting case in 2015 under Public Safety Act (PSA), are not known since the police claimed that he fled from Keegam police post.

“Till the whereabouts of Zubair bhai are not known, the shutdown will continue in the town,” a local said, adding that the youth had served his term and was “detained by police illegally”.
