Two shot dead in south Kashmir; houses of NC leader, cop attacked

Militants gunned down a woman and critically injured another in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, the police said, while a non-local vendor was shot dead in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on Sunday.

The vendor identified as Shakir Ahmad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, died after he was fired upon in Arwani area of Bijbehara, reports said.

Earlier, a woman identified as Yasmeena, a resident of Khonmoh, was shot dead by militants in Tral area of Pulwama. Another woman identified as Ruby, a resident of Seer Tral, was wounded in the attack, a police spokesman said.

In separate incidents, militants ransacked the house of a police official and hurled a grenade at the house of a  National Conference leader in Tral, authorities said.

Five masked militants ransacked the house of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Batagund village of Tral area on Saturday evening.

The inmates of the house including Bhat’s father managed to escape immediately upon the arrival of the militants, the authorities added.

A CRPF trooper was injured on Sunday as militants hurled grenade at the residence of a National Conference leader Mohammad Ashraf Bhat’s house in Tral area. Bhat is also the son of former NC MLA Mohammad Subhan Bhat. The NC leader told media that the attack on his house seemed to be an “angry reaction” to the ransacking of a local militant’s house by government forces some days ago.
