Srinagar: No congregational Friday prayers were allowed by the authorities at historic Jamia Masjid for 19th consecutive week in Old Srinagar today.
The authorities deployed large number of police and para-military personnel in and around the Srinagar Grand mosque to disallow weekly congregational noon prayers.
The pro-freedom leadership, in their weekly protest ‘calendar’, had asked people to “hold freedom congregations post Friday prayers”.
The logjam continues in the Valley since 8 July, the day militant commander Burhan Wani was killed by the government forces in Anantnag district.
More than 90 people were killed by the government forces in the ongoing uprising and thousands others were injured.
