2-Day lit fest takes off at Rajouri; journalist, poets, writer awarded

Srinagar: A 2-Day literary and cultural festival, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), took off at Himalayan College Campus Rajouri Saturday.

Organized in collaboration with Himalayan Education Mission Society, Rajouri, the inaugural session of the festival was attended by around 1000 people from various walks of life, a press statement issued here said.

Poetic symposia, panel discussions, State level musical concert and a day-long literary conference are the main highlights of the two-day festival, which is first such event in Rajouri.

The main highlight of the inaugural day was an All India Urdu Mushaira in which eminent poets like Bollywood lyricist Shakeel Azmi, Rajesh Reddy, Madan Mohan Danish, Mehshar Afridi and Javed Anwar participated.

The State-based poets who also participated in the mushaira included Arsh Sehbai, Balraj Bakshi, Rukhsana Jabeen, Shabnum Ashai, Shafaq Sopori, Rafiq Raaz, Liaqat Jafri, Ahmad Shinas and Shams Kamal.

MLA Rajouri, Choudhary Qamar Hussain attended the All India Urdu Musharia as the chief guest while SSP Rajouri, Yougal Manhas was the guest of honour. Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini, Founder patron Himalayan Education Mission Jb. Farooq Muztar, Dr Shohab Anayat Malik, Master Tasaddaq Hussain, Ch Liaqat Ali SP, Khalid Amin SP, Prof Asadullah wani , Shabaz Rajourvi, Nisar Rahi, Dr J A Qazi, Prof Musaraf Shah, Iqbal Shawl, Nazir Qureshi, M. N. Qureshi, Prof Anwar Shah,Prof Abbas Ch, Prof Bashir Ch were among the umpteen luminaries present on the occasion.

Earlier in his welcome speech, Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that over the past three years the Academy has organized several national and international events.

“So far we have been able to organize programmes across the nook and corner of the State with an intention to reach out the remote areas also to discover and promote talent. He lauded the visionary and generous efforts of Farooq Muztar Founder Patron Dabastan-e-Himala a literary wing of Himalayan Education Mission Rajouri in this remote hilly border belt which has been recognised at the State and national level. Hajini added that the process will continue.

The mega event was thrown open by Sh Vibodh Gupta MLC whereas Sh Kuldip Raj Gupta Vice Chairman for Development of Pahari Speaking People presided the inaugural session of the festival.

One of the special features of this historic event was the award ceremony organised by Dabastan e Himala , Himalayan Education Mission Rajouri in which eminent writers, academicians, journalists from across the state were felicitated in The prominent receipients of awards included Arsh Sehbai (Jammu) Farooq Nazki (Kashmir),Balraj Bakshi (Jammu) Tariq Ali Mir ( Kashmir), Khalid Hussain (Jammu) besides other writers and poets of regional languages including Gojri ,Pahari, Kashmiri etc.







The festival formally began with musical renditions by Shaziya Bashir, Zulekha Fareed and others. The culminating session of the festival will feature panel discussions.

Eminent persons scheduled to participate in the panel discussions include Khalid Hussain, Ghulam Nabi Aatish, Prof. Farooq Fayaz, Prof. Shad Ramzan, Javed Qadoos, Shuhab Inayat Malik, and Shahbaz Rajourvi.
