Srinagar: A civilian identified as Muhammad Yusuf, 70, was killed when the army opened fire on a protest march on Thursday in Panzgam area of frontier district Kupwara, while as three others were injured, locals told Kashmir Narrator.
According to eyewitnesses, locals held a protest march, demanding the mortal remains of two militants who carried out a fidayeen attack on an army camp in the area, killing three army personnel including an officer.
As the protests intensified, the army opened fire on the protesters in which a bullet hit Muhammad Yusuf of Panzgam, who was rushed to the hospital but succumbed on the way.
However, police, according to a media report, said that it is “a matter of investigation” whether the civilian died due to army firing or not.
