CRPF vehicle mows down three in Srinagar, pictures go viral

Three youth were mowed down by a CRPF vehicle in downtown Srinagar after Friday prayers, injuring one of them seriously. As soon as the incident took place, pictures showing the vehicle mowing down the youth went viral on social media.

Reports said that the CRPF vehicle hit the youth during protests after congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid.

They said that the injured youth were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Local reports identified one of the youth as Mohammad Younis. Doctors said that Younis has polytrauma. “When we received him at SKIMS hospital, he is intubated. We are monitoring his condition but he is very critical,” said an official from the hospital.

While giving details about another injured youth, the official said he is also critical. “Both the injured youth were received by JLNM hospital, Rainawari.”

Pertinently hundreds of people held a peaceful protest after the weekly congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

On May 5, a youth was crushed to death by a police vehicle in Noorbagh area of Srinagar. Though the police tried to hush up the matter by terming his death as a “road accident”, a viral video of the incident made them change the statement.
