DC Samba directs employees to install ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ ringtone, draws flak

Srinagar: In a bizarre move, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Sheetal Nanda, Friday has directed all district officers to ensure that the employees of their respective departments install ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ ringtone on their Jio numbers.

The direction came in the form of a circular in which the officers are asked to submit a compliance report in this regard by 24 February 2018.

The circular, DCS/PS/2017-19/863, directed the officers to call a particular Jio number to install the ringtone on the mobile.

Though some netizens have praised the move, many have rediculed it.

“How is DC competent to issue such orders when the employees have mobile sets in their private capacity,” wrote Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhatt wrote on Facebook.

Former Director Radio Kashmir, Bashir Arif, wrote: Cell phone is a personal property. You can not impel the employees to be part of a government slogan with such unilateral blanket order. No way.

Ex-Director Board of School Education, Bashir Ahmad, wrote: Beti Bachao Beti Padhao slogan has an interesting background. It started with VHP RSS slogan Beti Bachao Bahu Lao. The Hindutva goons coined the word Love Jihad and said to counter it hindus should save their daughters from marrying Muslims and have their men and boys married to Muslim girls and women. This campaign continued for many years. Once Modi became PM this slogan was modified in to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao slogan. You can implement Beti Bachao only if you are, in the first instance able to allow girls child to take birth. And
to overcome female infanticide you need social justice in the country. In a capitalist economy like India You See corporate sector flourishing at the cost of common people.
This is only a drama and people need to ignore it.”

Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a social campaign of the Government of India that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls. The scheme was launched with an initial funding of Rs 100 crore.
