Srinagar: Former Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura Dr A G Ahangar, who was removed from the Directorship in January after three top doctors of the institute were found practising at their clinics, was placed under suspension by the government on Wednesday.
The three doctors, however, were suspended and Dr Ahangar was removed from the Directorship and posted as Secretary (coordination) in Health and Medical Education Department.
“Consequent upon the approval of the Governing Body of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science, Soura and pending enquiry… Dr A G Ahangar, former Director, SKIMS … is placed under suspension with immediate effects,” reads a government order.
The order states that Dr Ahangar would remain attached to H&ME department during the period of his suspension.
Dr Ahangar had assumed the charge of SKIMS in July 2016.
The three Doctors were suspended after an Indian channel did a sting operation on the trio at their private clinics. The SKIMS doctors draw a non-practising allowance from.the institution and are banned to practice privately.
The government said that the Dean and Head of Department of General Surgery, SKIMS, Dr Altaf Kirmani; Head of Neurology Department Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Head of Neonatology Department Dr Wajid Ali were suspended for violating norms of not practising while serving the SKIMS.
