Inmates ‘attack’ Shabir Shah in judicial lockup

Senior Hurriyat Conference  leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah was allegedly attacked  by inmates in a judicial lockup while he appeared before a Delhi court Wednesday.

“Shah was brought from Tihar jail Wednesday morning and was lodged in Patiala Court lockup room where other prisoners who were also to appear before the court tried to attack him. They started abusing  him and in the meantime two of the prisoners told Shah to immediately manage his way out from the lockup as the other inmates were planning to attack him,” a spokesman of Shah’s Democratic Freedom Party said in  a statement.

“ As Shah shouted for help, a policeman came to his rescue and he was shifted to another room,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the court extended Shabbir Shah’s judicial remand till August 31.

Shah was arrested last month by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of money laundering.
