JRL calls shutdown tomorrow against civilian killings in Shopian

Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a complete shutdown on Monday following the killings of three civilians in Pahnoo area of Shopian. The Army, however, claimed that the slain were OGWs, a claim refuted by the locals.

Pro-freedom leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, have called for a complete shutdown against the killings.

The three civilians were identified as Suhail Khalil Wagay R/O Pinjoora, Muhammad Shahid Khan R/O Malikgund and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wagay R/O Trenz.

Terming the killings as “highly unfortunate and unjustified”, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “the forces in Kashmir have become trigger-happy. People must observe a complete shutdown tomorrow against these innocent killings.”

Earlier, an Army spokesman said that militants fired upon a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post near Pohan at 8pm which was retaliated. In retaliatory firing, one militant identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Dar R/O Jamnagri, Shopian was killed and a weapon has been found with him.
