MET dept proven wrong, rains lash Srinagar

Despite Meteorological Department ruling out any respite from the heatwave that gripped the Valley from the past two days, rains lashed Srinagar to the much relief of locals.

The Valley witnessed the hottest summer at 35 degrees in a decade on Sunday, 8.1 degrees Celsius above normal.

“When the maximum temperature is more than four degrees above the normal in the hilly areas, we declare a heat wave in those areas. In Kashmir, it has gone up between 6 and 8 degrees in all recording stations of the Valley,” Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus had said.
