A complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir Valley Sunday on the 34th death anniversary of Maqbool Butt even as the authorities laid down restrictions in old Srinagar to thwart pro-freedom and anti-India protests. Butt was hanged in 1984 in Delhi’s Tihar Jail by the Indian authorities and buried there. Kashmir’s pro-freedom camp has long since demanded the mortal remains of Butt, a demand always met with rejection.
