A trooper was killed as militants attacked a CRPF camp in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar area on Monday. Two militants tried to barge into the camp at 4.45 am but were forced to take shelter in a nearby building after a sentry opened fire at them, officials said. The militants fired at the forces, triggering a gunfight that left a trooper dead and a member of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police critically injured. Police chief S P Vaid congratulated the “alert CRPF sentry” for averting a possible fidayeen attack on the camp. “Fortunately two terrorists are in cordon and exchange of fire going on,” he said. Loud explosions and the rattle of gunfire could be intermittently heard in the area when reports last came in. (Pictures by Zargar Zahoor)
