Police fires teargas-shells on teenager’s funeral at Eidgah

Srinagar: Police today fired tear-gas shells on protestors during a funeral of a local youth who succumbed to his injuries yesterday at Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. According to family members, the youth,¬†Kaiser Hameed Sofi of Shalimar Srinagar, was “beaten-up and poisoned by police” on October 27, an allegation denied by the police. Sofi was a 10th grade student.

The dead body of the youth was scheduled to be laid to rest at martyrs’ graveyard Eidgah today. Eyewitnesses told that a large number of people were present in the area to participate in the last rites of the youth.

Locals said that the police chased the protestors and damaged window panes of a number of houses at Ganderpora area of Eidgah, where the body of the youth was taken.

Till last reports came, clashes between protestors and police were going on in the area, with police resorting to aerial firing to disperse them.
