Shopian killings were ‘need of the hour’ to prevent chaos: BJP MLA

Srinagar: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator today said that the army action in Shopian yesterday in which two youth were killed was “need of the hour” to prevent “bloodshed and chaos” in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ravinder Raina, BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Nowshera made this remark in a video that was shared on social networking websites. It seems that the MLA was speaking to a news agency while being flanked by some army personnel.

“It was a conspiracy of Pakistanis and separatists to target the army vehicles in Shopian yesterday and around 200 goons, criminals, anti-nationals targeted one of the vehicles and injured seven army jawans,” Raina said.

He claimed that the locals tried to “snatch weapons from army jawans” and they “took the preventive measure”.

Local reports said that the army fired for 25 minutes on unarmed youth yesterday in Ganawpora, Shopian which resulted in the death of two youth and injuring several others. One youth is in critical condition in a Srinagar hospital.

“Had there been no timely action, there would have been chaos and loss of so many lives… Hats off to the jawans,” Raina said.

The BJP legislator also said that after “failing to disrupt 26 January (Republic day), Pakistani sympathisers and agents attacked army convoy.”

Commenting on ceasefire violations on Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), Raina said, “If Pakistan continues with its ceasefire violation, a major surgical strike will be carried out against them.”
