Students attack army convoy with stones in HMT Srinagar

Srinagar: School children pelted stones on an army convoy in HMT area of Srinagar on Monday. The army, according to reports, retaliated by firing gunshots into the air to disperse them.

Reports said that students of Higher Secondary Zainkote took to streets in form of a protest demonstration against the recent police crackdown on school and college students in different parts of the Valley.

Eyewitnesses said that youth were heading toward the Srinagar-Baramulla highway where an army convoy was passing by. The students started pelting stones on their vehicles.

Meanwhile, police came and forced the students to inner lanes and bylanes, triggering clashes between them.

Student protests have become the new norm of the resistance movement in the Valley since April 15 when government forces launched a crackdown on Pulwama degree college students in which more than 50 students were injured.

The student protests spread from south Kashmir to north Kashmir’s Handwara area where more than 40 students, including girls, were injured on Saturday in day-long clashes between students and police.
