Three Kashmiri students booked for ‘disrespecting national anthem’

Three engineering students from Kashmir have been booked for “disrespecting” India’s anthem by not standing when it was being played at a Hyderabad cinema hall, reports said Sunday.

The trio, studying B.Tech at a private engineering college in Chevella, had gone to watch a movie at Mantra Cinepolis Mall, Attapur. “As the National Anthem was played before the show, they did not stand and it was witnessed by a government official, based upon whose complaint, police have registered a case and arrested them,”  Telangana Today reported.

“They did not stand while the National Anthem was being played. The government official, who is associated with the police department, had seen their objectionable behaviour and immediately approached us,” the newspaper quoted a senior official as saying.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act of 1971 and they were arrested. However, they were let off after giving station bail, the official said.
