Srinagar: Unknown gunmen abducted a Kashmiri youth studying in Jalandhar, Punjab Friday morning from his room in Gagan Vihar, his roommates said.
Adil Hussain Teli, 23, who is studying at St Soldier Management and Technical Institute, Jalandhar, was abducted by eight gunmen who barged into his room and whisked him away with his mobile phone and laptop, said his roommate Shahid Bhat who also hails from Kashmir.
“We were studying in our rented room, house number 35-A at Gagan Vihar, when eight people who were possessing pistols barged in and abducted Adil. We asked them who they are, but they didn’t respond. No one is helping us here. Even police say that they can’t help. Fear has overwhelmed us here,” said Bhat, adding that the Principal of the institute where they are studying also gave a cold shoulder.
Hussain, who hails from Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam, is pursuing BCA course at the institute.
Hussain’s brother, Muhammad Sayeed Teli, has lodged an FIR at Police Station Yaripora, Kulgam.
“We came to know about the abduction through his roommates. We don’t know where he is presently. I hope the government will take immediate steps to trace him out as soon as possible,” he said.
In the past, many Kashmiri students have been detained by the police in different states. One MBBS student from Kashmir was abducted by unknown people in Odisha and the police are yet to trace him out.
