Four CRPF troopers, four policemen and two militants were killed as ‘fidayeen’ stormed a police complex in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. Reports said militants entered the fortified District Police Lines at around 4 am and attacked a guard-post with grenades and gunfire, killing constable Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh on the spot.
Four CRPF troopers and three Special Police Officers of the Jammu and Kashmir police were also killed in the ensuing gunfight . Police said bodies of two militants had been recovered from the complex so far . A spokesman of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) phoned a Srinagar-based news agency to own responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, as the gunfight raged, hundreds of youth took to streets and clashed with government forces before being chased away . (Pictures by Faisal Khan and Muneeb-ul-Islam)
